Gulabo Sitabo Review
Gulabo Sitabo is about a greedy man Mirza (played by Amitabh Bachchan) who is married to the princess of the royal family. Mirza is the caretaker of the royal heritage house called Fatima Mahal where Fatima is his wife's name. They also have a number of tenants who share the "Haveli" with him but provide minimum rent i.e. 70 rupees. One of the tenants is Ayushman Khurrana or Banke, whose family has been living as tenants in this house for generations. Being poor, Ayushman is unable to provide rent to Mirza which starts the whole turn of events.
Gulabo Sitabo is about the greed of a man who can sell anything that can be sold into minimum price just because he wants money. Gulabo Sitabo beautifully portrays how each and every person thinks about their own benefit in any way possible. Vijay Raaz has portrayed the role of Archaeological officer who is determined to get this house under Archaeological society so that the government can reconstruct the house and keep it on display for people. Brijendra Kala plays a lawyer who portrays as if he is helping Mirza getting him house but eventually turns his back on him and sells the house to a renowned and rich builder.
Gulabo Sitabo portrays extraordinary performance from Amitabh Bachchan which can be one of the best in his career and in Hindi cinema. How beautifully he has shown the greed of an old man asking again and again, "Paisa Kitna Milega?" cannot be written in words. A lot of the times, Amitabh Bachchan has spoken the dialogues in just the same manner as any old man would do in real life with the same huskiness in his voice. It was an outstanding performance telling how powerful an actor he is. Ayushman has done a good job and kept the benchmark set by Amitabh Bachchan through his acting. Gulabo Sitabo is directed by Shoojit Sircar who is a well-known director in Hindi cinema. The direction is done quite well except a few scenes where Mirza's face is too dark to see his expression. A scene in which Mirza is in the laboratory with Vijay Raaz had beautiful dialogues but the face was not visible. A similar thing happened in two more scenes. The dialogues are written are very good and in the same Lucknow language keeping the normal Hindi dialect intact which feels too real. Gulabo Sitabo is a very beautiful movie and I would have loved to have seen it on the bigger screen. Gulabo Sitabo is highly recommended to watch.
