Giri/Haji Review - A Loose Mafia Hustle

Giri/ Haji is a Japanese-London crime drama series. Released on Netflix, Giri/Haji has not been renewed by Netflix India until now but I hope it will be soon. What do you suggest a Japanese crime series would be about? Yes! It is a gangster/ mafia movie which displays how the lives of the family of the criminals are affected. Focussing mainly on the family part, Giri/Haji is light, serious and perfectly executed crime series.

Giri/Haji Story

Giri/Haji is a story of two men. One is a criminal while other is a cop. Both are brothers. Due to clashes between the gangs (for which this man works), he has to flow away from Japan. The news of his death then floats in the neighbourhood. When a murder happens in London, the style of the murder points the fingers towards the cop's brother. To confirm the presence of his brother, the cop flows to London and finds out his brother is alive. Giri/Haji is all about convincing him to go back to Japan, start a new life and the problems they face in between.

Giri/Haji Review

Giri/Haji's direction is quite perfect. The fight scenes are well-executed which they should be since it is a mafia show especially Japanese. The acting is very natural and it blends the emotions with the family. There are pinches of comedy in between but they are merely worth a smile. Giri/Haji could have been a little more suspenseful which unfortunately it is not. The story just goes on without any surprises for the audience and at one point, it does become boring. The story is good but the action is too less considering there are eight episodes of one hour each. Although I don't expect a season 2, it is okayish in nature and can be skipped.
