Teen Aur Aadha

Teen Aur Aadha Review

Teen aur Aadha is now steaming on Netflix. Film consists of three and a half tales where every tale is shot on single take.

Synopsis:

Three and a half tales takes place in the same house over a period of time. First one  is “Yamraj :God of Death“. Its about a child  Raj  whose parents went out on his birthday and his grand father who is on bed rest after paralysis attack. Second one is “Natraj: God of Dance”. Natraj  meets a women who works at a brothel with whom he shares his insecurities. Third one is “Kamraj : God of Love” an old man get to know some of his wife’s secret first time in 30 years. Last one or I might say the half one is “Yaksh Raj: Half God”. I will talk about it in my opinion.

 My Opinion:

Those long shots and revolving camera inside the house  make us hard to decide whether it’s a film set or a stage. Its really tough to engage audience through single takes but with Teen aur Aadha it looks very smooth sequence without any cut and we get to see every inch of the production. Film director Dar Gai and Cinematographer Aakash Raj really shows there prowess.
First film ‘Yamraj: God of Death’. A boy name Raj whose birthday is on 29th of Feb . Raj’s school was on the ground floor of his house and he lives with his parents and grand parents. Raj was hesitant of telling his birthday to others may be  because he wont have any gifts from his parents to show or might be his birthday comes once in four years so he is not used to of celebrating it.  A minor incident in his grand father’s  childhood had popped up the most potent question of his life and he didn’t find proper answer for that. Things which we do in our young days out of joy or other reasons, haunts us till the end . His grand father wishes to die on 29th Feb so that he can get 'Moksh'. He  wants to be free from the cycle of life and death. His grandfather gave him clue about the things to come. Their conversation portrays the gap between child’s exuberance  and old man's cynicism. There is also the chanting of ram nam satye hai in the background which just add another layer to it.

Second film is “Natraj :The God of Dance”. The house which served as a school is a brothel now. There is a man named Natraj, who feels  shy in front of women . His brother takes him to brothel so that he can get rid of his awkwardness to face women. That didn’t solve his problem but made him frequent visitor to brothels which sounds like Tyrion Lannistor’s story. I hope you are a GoT fan. On the other hand Sulekha  had her ways of extracting  love and money from lust. She just wants to make the dark moment of her life bit lighter and passionate so that it serves her.

Third story “Kamraj : The God of Love” is about an old man who finds his wife dancing and then he gets to know about her wife's Sunday rituals which he wasn't aware of . The nature of their conversation looks as if they are talking for the first time. How swiftly their time passes together that they forget each other. They were talking like young couples, nothing poignant but still comforting .

Last one  “Yakshraj: Half God ”. It shows that same house under going maintenance and no one is living in it. The painters were painting the wall into some other color for some other person with some other conflict.

That  house is also the character in the film with other two characters in the respective films and other half character is the lawn which is also changing with the story. They show lawn by hanging camera  out of the window. It shows that no matter how inside and outside world changes but human conflicts are still basic. In Yamraj when Raj was walking to school there’s a boy playing cricket and suddenly a man shouts”sachin stop playing and go to school”. In the third film “Kamraj” three man are seen listening to the commentary of Sachin’s last test match. The house has seen so many things over the course of  several years like a school cum residence, brothel and a house for old age couple.  The house is constant while people living in it are changing as if  its not a house but a Harbor to a sea. Different kinds of ships sailed and many more to come. It is like structures of temples is same but gods inhabiting it are changing and also changing it interiors.
 Bottom line Dont miss it.
