Qarib Qarib Singlle Movie Review
A new movie of Irrfan Khan with Parvathy is Qarib Qarib Singlle. Although Irrfan is all sick and admitted, I wonder how his movies keeps appearing every month. Lets see how this movie is
Synopsis
Qarib Qarib Singlle is about two persons, Irrfan and Parvathy. Irrfan is never married but is 40 years old. He is a poet and earns really well through royalties. Parvathy is a web developer who is a widow of an army man. They both meet at a dating site "ab tak single" and apparently connect with each other. They both meet in a coffee shop the next day and then start meeting frequently. Irrfan is always saying few things about his past girlfriends and so he one day decides to meet all of them. One lives in Rishikesh, other in Jaipur and one is Gangtok. He forces Jaya (Parvathy) to come with him and to know him more she accepts the invitation.
Jaya has always kept her husband alive through her memories. She saves the name of her husband as password and remembers her. Yogi (Irrfan) is confident that all his girlfriends (three) will cry after seeing him because he left them that way. He has also kept them alive by talking about them more frequently and keeping things given by them. He is surprised by the way he is received by all of them.
One of his girlfriend is married and is really very happy to see him. She calls him her kid's maternal uncle (mama) and her husband is also very friendly. The other girlfriend who lives in Jaipur is celebrating her marriage anniversary but she remembers Yogi in a good way. She misses him but not how he had expected. The last girlfriend who lives in Gangtok wanted to be a dancer when Yogi was her boyfriend and when he see her, she has excelled in dancing.
The main core of the movie is that Yogi is surprised to see how all of his girlfriends who were once so attached to him and cried for him have moved on with their lives. Not only have they moved on, they are also happy. A lot happy. He himself thinks he is the only one who is stuck at the same point.
My Opinion:
I think the concept of the movie comes from the hollywood movie, "The Ghost of the girlfriend's past". They have taken the main concept and twisted it according to the indian audience. It is not completely that movie but I think the idea must have stuck in writer's mind through that movie only.
Apart from the story, the dubbing is a real disaster. The dubbing for the female lead Parvathy is so annoying that at one point you would like to shut down the movie. A very irritating dubbing. It is explicit that she is not the one speaking. I don't know why they chose her for the role. It was neither challenging nor demanding a south indian girl. The dubbing in Suryavansham done by Rekha is far better than this. There were many bollywood actress like Tabu could have suited the script or maybe Shilpa Shetty.
The story is not well scripted as it should have been. Although I understood the main core of the movie, it would be very difficult for many people to understand it. Not because it is not shown explicitly but they have not executed the scenes and the script very well. Although the movie could have been a really beautiful movie like You've got mail but now I don't feel it is worth it. I
do not recommend this movie.
