Comicstaan

Comicstaan Review

Comicstaan is an indian stand up comedy competition which aired on Amazon Prime Video and just finished two days earlier. Let us find out how is it:

Synopsis:

Comicstaan is an Indian stand up comedy competition where 10 contestants were selected from all across the country by the top comedians which include Biswa Kalyan Rath, Kanan Gill, Kenny Sebastian, Sapan Verma, Naveen Richards, Tanmay Bhatt and Kaneez Surkha. The show consisted of seven different genres of comedy which were mentored by each of the judges in which they master.

My opinion:

Comicstaan is definitely a beautiful attempt to change the way Indians perceive comedy. Since Kapil Sharma and Laughter Challenge aired, the audience has changed quite well. Now people want to listen the jokes of the type they actually talk about while standing on the road. Comicstaan has served the purpose. Moreover, I really liked the choice of judges for the show. Since all these judges are themselves stand up comedians, there is no person better than them to judge the show. It was good that no celebrity actor like Akshay Kumar was signed for being a judge who do not know about comedy at all like in Laughter Challenge which bombed this year as everyone know.

The pattern of the show was quite interesting as I am quite sure many of us won't be knowing these different types of comedy such as Alternative comedy etc. It was a great show and a great beginning to a comedy competition and I loved it a lot. It was unscripted and without any stupid promotions and/or drama. I just could not digest one fact that why Kaneez Surkha was signed as a judge. It can be as a sign of feminism or to create an equal balance but I feel she did not deserve it to be there. It would have been really awesome if someone like Atul Khatri would be sitting on the judge seat or maybe Sorabh Pant. But overall, I very highly recommend this show.

Comicstan Season 2?

Yes, Amazon has confirmed for a second season of Comicstaan with the same set of judges with an addition of Zakir Khan in the panel. It would be great to see a second season as the first one was really fantastic. I hope it changes the conventional idiotic comedy competitions of India.
